Many people have cleaning traditions they learned from their parents or grandparents. Some may seem odd to others but usually they work and you wonder why you never thought of it before. Wherever the home cleaning hacks came from, I’m just thankful now I know them.
When it comes to getting your clothes ready for a night out, there is a life hack that can save you a lot of time – and the annoying chore of having to iron your clothes. I noticed this first when I was over my friend’s house and watched her toss a few ice cubes in the dryer. I had seen her do it once before but never asked her why. This time however I asked her why she did it. I’m glad I did because I’m using this cleaning hack now. Plus, it doesn’t cost you a cent.
If you’re looking to get smooth laundry that seems pressed, place two or three ice cubes in there with the clothes. I know, you’re first reaction is ‘Huh?’ But it works! So the next question is ‘how does it work though?’ It’s simple really.
The dryer melts the ice and then turns it into steam through the process. The steam then de-wrinkles your clothes like nothing else.
When you use this laundry hack in your home, it’s best to use only a small load of laundry. It’s perfect if you’re short on time or just hate ironing your clothes. I certainly hate it and am not alone in that pet peeve.
When you put this to good use, only put a few shirts or a shirt and a pair of pants in the dryer at the same time. You need the dryer to be able to steam the ice cubes and make them work their magic. It’s a simple trick that does the job right.
The ice cube and dryer trick do the job. But if you don’t have a dryer or don’t want to rack up the electric bill for some clothes like this, try a hairdryer.
There are also other hacks that you can use. The next one has to do with keeping your towels nice and soft. While fabric softener should be able to do the job, there’s a more natural way to keep them baby soft.
“Use vinegar instead of fabric softener. Works better, and no, it doesn’t smell,” someone shared online after an Australian mother shared her woes about her towels.
Another person suggested to use the dryer for towels but remove them while they’re still a bit damp. They’ll be softer.
