‘Nun’ too Shabby – Nuns Dance to “I Will Follow Him”
Twelve nuns, fully dressed in their veils, gloves, cowls, and tunics, walked out into the middle of a gymnasium and got in position. As the music began to play, the nuns started to move in rhythm to the flowing melody of “I Will Follow Him” by Little Peggy March, made famous by the 1992 film, “Sister Act.”
These sisters had an act of their own, tearing up the floor to the tune and sharing their light-hearted joy with those who watched.
At first, the moves where somewhat liturgical and worshipful. As the beat dropped, the nuns hitched their skirts to reveal modest pants and tennis shoes below. Their movements picked up too.
In time with the song, these ladies bounced, swayed, and step, ball, changed their way into our hearts. Clapping and slapping their legs, the ladies inserted some Zumba moves next.
The high-energy, fun routine is a far cry from most of our typical thoughts about nuns are. Not a single one of them had a sour expression or a ruler in their hands.
The psalmist said, “Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.” While they had no timbrel or organs, they definitely danced their hearts out!
It is a joy to watch believers express their faith and hope in Jesus. This dance is a great, fun way to share the love of God. Now, who is ready to add this to their Zumba workout?
