Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
Philippians 2:12–13
Even after you encounter the love of God and give your heart to Christ, accepting the gift of salvation through his death on the cross, you will continue to discover new dimensions of what it means to be saved. When you accepted Jesus into your life, the Holy Spirit came to dwell inside you, and his presence guides and directs you, comforts and encourages you.
But we still have choices to make and must learn to allow our love for God to be at the center of our decisions. Our obedience to God is for our own good, not because we have to work our way to heaven or because he’s going to leave us if our work isn’t good enough. Working out our salvation with fear and trembling means that we remain humble, teachable, and open to what God is doing in our lives. Salvation is a process, a work in progress, as we become transformed into the image of Jesus.
