Bottles are now being dumped and discarded close to homes of innocent people, and it has many wondering just what they are.
Sure they look innocent enough, but these used bottles could be housing an explosive concoction.
Life-threatening explosive bottles have been found at an increasing “staggering rate,” according to the police department.
In the past, producing this horrible substance usually required a lot of equipment and time. But now they are making it in used plastic drinking bottles and because of this, they are very dangerous to the public at large.
These bottles are being tossed away in fear of getting caught with the illegal substance and if the bottle is picked up and shaken the wrong way, or oxygen gets inside, the bottle could explode.
These bottles are often tossed out of car windows and police have been discovering these type of containers in yards, parking lots, ditches, and also inside dumpsters.
They all carry the potential of exploding, as the chemical gasses build up inside.
Since the substance in the bottle can catch fire and explode when subjected to oxygen, it can possibly be life-threatening to even unscrew the cap to see what’s inside. Police officers around the country are now warning citizens to stay away if they see a suspicious bottle.
In May, police in New Hampshire and the Drug Enforcement Agency sound the alarm, according to The Boston Globe.
Residents were advised that plastic bottles discarded by the side of the highway could be used as miniature lab.
“Those who see them should not touch them or remove the cap, as this can let oxygen into the bottle and cause a reaction”, Keene, N.H. police said in a Facebook post.
Police encourage anyone who finds these bottles not to touch them, but to call their local authorities.
Brookline police said, “With roadside and property cleanups in full swing, the dangers of meth exposure, as well as the risk of explosion and fire, are real and cannot be taken lightly or ignored.”
