Young Woman Records 87-Year-Old Grandfather’s Reaction Every Time He Opens the Door

The Bible speaks a lot about the fact that human life is short on Earth. Solomon once compared life to chasing after the wind.

Some thinkers from ancient Rome used the image of a grain of incense falling onto an altar, there one moment and gone the next.

After all, it’s true that we don’t last long on this Earth, and such a truth should make us approach life differently. Well, it certainly has for one woman from Scotland.

“My wee Grandad, 87 years young, and he’s my no.1 guy.” Jen Barclay said on Twitter. “I love him with all my heart.

“And I love recording his reactions when I come to visit. I hope everyone can appreciate the video I’ve made as much as I do.”

Barclay posted a video to social media of her standing at her grandfather’s door and then the elderly man’s beaming smile every time he opened the door for her.

In nearly all of the clips, the slightly hunched older man answers the door with a cheery countenance. Sometimes he’s whistling..

Sometimes he playfully pretends that he doesn’t recognize who Barclay is. Sometimes he gives her a grandfatherly hug.

“What’s the password?” he questions at one point. “Please!” Barclay responds (which works quite well).

“Hello, honey bun!” he quips in the last clip. There’s one commonality that all the pieces of the video share.

Barclay’s grandfather is so excited to see his granddaughter.

“No matter how many times I watch the video of my granddad opening the door, it brings a tear to my eye,” Barclay said. “So much love.”

“I wish I did this with my grandma,” a user named Dara said. “Sometimes she even came to the door with fresh cookies.”

“This literally made me start to cry in a room full of people at work,” Emily-Louise Mary tweeted. Jonathan Riley wanted to know, “If these are really surprise videos, then why he prepared and lookin’ so fly with his make up and hair did.”

“Makes me miss my grandpa,” another Twitter user confessed. “Can i adopt yours?”

Indeed, the video gives us a reminder of how important it is to treasure those we love. After all, we don’t know how many days are given to them — or to us.
