A mother will do anything for their child, it’s just the way they are! And for a young boy named Gabe Bellus, his mother, Kim, has been his support during a very tough time. Kim is a stay-at-home mom and she would walk with her son to and from school for hours each and every day. The reason Kim had to do this was that, at that time, Nebraska state regulations didn’t require buses to pick up students who lived less than 4 miles away from school, which Gabe barely did.

Kim, who is also a full-time college student, didn’t own a car. They lived just under 2 miles from the elementary school, but walking each day was a full 4-hour journey there and back. Sure, the walk wasn’t too bad on warmer days, but the colder season really worried Kim the most. Kim was hoping that something could be done to help her, so she reached out to the local news station. The hard-working mom had hoped their story would draw some attention, and it did.

The very same day their story aired, Kim and Gabe were walking their normal route when something amazing happened. A woman, who recognized their faces from TV, suddenly pulled over her car and offered to help them. They learned that the woman’s name was Becky Novotny, and she took them back to their home. Becky and Kim then made a deal that she would take Gabe to school each day.

“If I was in the same situation, I’d think I want someone to help me,” Becky said. “It’s a small town. You’re there for everybody.” Kim didn’t expect help to come to her this way, but she is so appreciative of what Becky offered to do for her and her boy. “I tried with the administration. I tried particularly with the school itself, so I greatly appreciate [the] help,” Kim said. Learn more about their story in the video below:
