They Dropped A Basketball Off A 415-Foot Dam To See Science In Action

I have to admit that I didn’t pay much attention to my high school science classes.  Maybe if we’d been doing experiments like this, I would’ve been a lot more involved.

These guys decided that they wanted to test out the Magnus effect, a fascinating phenomenon observable in spinning spherical objects and cylinders. So naturally, they took a basketball up to the top of a 415-foot dam.

When these science-loving kids dropped a basketball from the top of the very tall dam they saw true science in action that helped teach them more about physics, all while doing something extremely cool. Watch to learn what exactly is going on!
