Enjoying movies with the ones you love is always a great experience! We all have fond memories watching films with our loved ones, and many iconic movies bring back stories that we can all reminisce over! How many of you remember watching the movie “Mummy”? Well, a new Tom Cruise-led reboot is out and it brings up a big question, what in the world happened to the original star Brendan Fraser?
The 48-year-old actor has enjoyed years of success after his breakout role in 1992’s “Encino Man,” but in recent years his career has taken a nosedive after a few bad movie choices. In the early to mid-’00s, Fraser was doing great after starring in box office hits like “Bedazzled,” “The Quiet American,” “Journey to the Center of the Earth” and “George of the Jungle.” However, in 2008, he chose to do the third “Mummy” movie titled “Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” and it was a big mistake.
The movie was bashed by critics and it really put a dent in Fraser’s reputation. And, to make it worse, he was dropped from “Journey to the Center of the Earth 2” when the producers chose Dwayne Johnson for that role instead. But, not only has his career taken a hit, so has his personal life. In 2013, the star had to petition the courts to reduce his spousal support sum to his ex-wife since he could no longer meet the annual payment of $900,000. And, during the court battle, it was revealed that he made about $205,000 a month and paid just over $112,000 a month for professional expenses. He was then left making slightly more than $92,000 a month. On top of that, he paid $25,000 for child support, $5,200 for gardening and $3,000 on his staff each month. The court documents showed Fraser’s expenses had him losing just over $87,000 a month. At the time, his total assets were valued at just under $25 million.
But, luckily things are looking up for Fraser now. The actor is said to appear in director Danny Boyle’s new series “Trust” alongside Hilary Swank and Donald Sutherland.
Brendan will also voice a superhero Robotman for DC Comics tv show called Doom Patrol in 2019.
