Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers all wrongs.
Proverbs 10:12
When we forgive other people, we’re displaying a response that often defies logic. After all, some wrongs just seem too big to be forgiven: murder, rape, genocide, on and on. However, God forgives all sins—there’s not one that’s any worse than another, although some sins certainly have larger, more devastating consequences.
But all have sinned and we all fall short of the glory of God. When we choose to hate instead of love, we’re basically saying that only some sins are forgivable. However, that’s not what God tells us and shows us through his grace. He sent Christ to live among us and die on the cross for our sins. Our Father wanted us to see his love in action in an irrefutable, irrevocable way.
Christ’s death and resurrection changed everything. We aren’t limited by our own hatred or inability to love. Through God’s power, we can love even those who hurt us with unimaginable betrayals and injuries.
