The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
Isaiah 58:11
He Waters Our Soul
One of the many reasons we love spring is because of the many flowers bursting into bloom around us. Yellow daffodils, red tulips, bluebells, and lilacs decorate the lush green fields and lawns that had been brown and frozen only weeks before. Our heart seems to rejoice as we thank God for the startling beauty of his creation, the way his natural paint brush colors the landscape.
In biblical times, most gardens had to be cultivated and watered regularly in order for flowers to bloom. The arid Middle Eastern climate in Israel did not always facilitate the natural blossoms we enjoy. Sometimes it must have seemed like a miracle when the sandy, sun-scorched soil soaked up the rain and yielded wildflowers.
This is the kind of miracle God delights in performing in our hearts. We become thirsty and dry, but he waters our souls with his Word. Like tender buds leaning toward the sun, we follow him and blossom into new life.
Pray: “Dear God, you are so faithful and meet all my needs. Thank you for the way you bring beauty where it doesn’t seem possible in my life.”
