Surely, O Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
Psalm 5:12
Receive His Words
As a father loves taking his kids to the park to play, God just enjoys spending time with us. He’s seen our work and activity for him, and he appreciates it, but he wants to give something to us that no one else can—time alone with him. Restoration. In the quiet moments, he comes to us and, in ways we do not understand, he pours himself into us and we are refreshed.
There are many ways we encounter such refreshment. We can focus on his love poured out for us on the cross. We can sit quietly at his feet or imagine ourselves in his lap as he tells us how precious we are to him. We can remember that he has forgiven all of our sins and doesn’t hold any of it against us or even remember them. We can focus on these truths and many more in his Word. He gives us many gifts and has placed them strategically in our paths to remind us of his love.
When we need it most, God will often come to us in ways we do not understand and whisper, “I love you. You are mine. I enjoy you. Nothing will take you away from me. You do not have to earn my love.”
Today, receive his words, look for his gifts, and open your heart to him.
Pray: “Father, thank you for the many ways you reveal your love for me. I am not worthy, but you have made me your own.”
