People are outraged at what is being served as ‘lunch’ nowadays to our children in school. This photo, taken at a school in DuBois, Pennsylvania has generated plenty of attention on Facebook. The content? Well, it is apparently what one boy was served for his school lunch.
The picture itself became an instant sensation online. Local television station WJACTV reported on the story, with the meal having been served in a school cafeteria.
As you can see, the dish carries a dark brown-gray color, with small spots of…well something, visible on its surface.
The superintendent of the school district in the area, Dr. Luke Lansberry, told WJACTV that the reason for the food’s color was that it was cooked at a high temperature. He also answered the question as to what it’s actually supposed to be.
“Food service workers cooked the hamburgers at 170 degrees when typically they are only required to cook at 155 degrees,” Lansberry said to WAJC TV.
So it’s a hamburger! That would have been one of my guesses. Glad he cleared that up.
“There’s a pretty good chance that hamburger was overcooked and a lot of the internal ingredients surfaced from that level of heat.”
Though Lansberry remained confident that the school had done no wrong, he did admit that the school would take the hamburgers off the menu.
“Our food service director has contacted the state and told them about the situation and made it clear we will no longer accept that product in the district, just to make sure that we have good quality food,” he said.
So if the hamburger was fine, then why take it off the menu? Better yet, why don’t they show us a video of the superintendent eating one of the perfectly find ‘hamburgers’? Oh well, it would have been an interesting video.
We can only hope that the kids are given better food going forward.
So did you guess it was a hamburger? What was the grossest thing your lunchroom ever served? Let me know in the comments below.
