Nine months is sometimes insufficient to pick out a right name. The name you are given is the one which stays with you for life. While a few may have a choice of changing it later on, most of us stick to our given names. Finding a name that a baby can grow into which is both meaningful and unique is quite a task. There are beautiful names like Matthew or John with deep meaning but too popular.
Most parents seek a name with a biblical reference. Most American presidents with the exception of George Washington had a biblical name of some form- John Quincy Adams, James Madison, Abraham Lincoln, John Kennedy, Warren G. Harding and Dwight Eisenhower. A celebrity status does not pull you away from a life of faith. It might come as a surprise that celebrities prefer to name their children after the bible. One such notable public figure who is known for his stellar performance is Matthew McConaughey. Name of Mathew’s elder son is Levi. Young Levi, who celebrated his 9th birthday this year, is named after the actor’s favorite Biblical verse.
The name Levi is biblical: Matthew 6:22, “If thy eye be single, thy whole body will be full of light,” is the biblical verse the actor’s life is shaped on. While deciding on baby names, Levi was one of the six options. A second choice was Matthew Jr, for a son. Levi was the name which was chosen after comparing the baby’s time of birth with the bible verses. Matthew, who was on Good morning America, said “We find out he’s a boy when he’s born. You’re not thinking about the name, right?” he continued. “An hour later, the doctor comes up and he hands you that card to fill out: ‘Blank was born at 6:22 p.m.’ So we went, ‘It’s Levi.”
Matthew McConaughey speaks on faith: Winning an award is the best form of appreciation a performing artist receives. In the world of cinema, one of the highest honors is winning an Oscar for best performance. Glimpses of the actor’s mettle show when they deliver an acceptance speech. In over the 100 speeches made, there are a pitiful few instances of gratitude to the Creator, specifically as little as 14 in the 30 years the annual award ceremony have been in existence. Matthew McConaughey did not shy away from thanking the Lord for giving presenting such opportunities in life which led him towards success. He said, “First off I want to thank God, because that’s who I look up to. He’s graced my life with opportunities that I know are not of my hand or any other human hand.” “He has shown me that it’s a scientific fact that gratitude reciprocates. In the words of the late (British actor) Charlie Laughton, who said, ‘When you got God you got a friend and that friend is you.'”
The general perception now is that biblical values on marriage, family and brotherhood are outdated ideals which are not relevant to the current times and situations. Happy marriages are viewed as mythical and a post published recently in a famous site said, “These days, a happy marriage requires a serious commitment of time and energy that can be hard to maintain”. Such a reason sounds cowardly and not good enough to be considered as a valid point. Matthew spoke about his marriage to Camilla Alves saying before tying the knot, both took time to understand what the institution of marriage stood for. He said in an interview, “did a lot of reading and talked to a lot of people that had been divorced, a lot of people that had been happily married. [They] talked to [their] pastor. In the end, [their] understanding was, ‘Let’s go make a covenant, with you, me and God.'” Citing that he wanted to be married not because it was something everyone in love did but, “You know, I didn’t want it to be just a destination; the fun is that we’re on the adventure together.” In fact, inscribed on his wedding band is the verse from Matthew 6:22: “The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.”
Matthew is starring in a soon to release fantasy film “The Dark Tower”, a motion picture adaptation of a popular Stephen King series. Speaking of his role, Matthew said that it was new to him, playing a dark character known as Walter or The Man in Black. “He’s not the devil, but he’s the devil impersonated.” “The story is I’m trying to bring down this tower that holds the universe together. Idris [Elba] plays The Gunslinger. He’s the only man that can keep the tower from falling and the only guy that can kill me. And you gotta go see the movie to see if he does that,” said McConaughey.
