Most people never forget the kindness they received. This also applies to hummingbirds.
That’s why, every year since a stranger saved his life, a special hummingbird makes sure to visit a Grovetown, Georgia man.
Maybe Mike Cardenaz looks like a hard guy. And it’s because he is a tattooed, muscle car driving, former SWAT team member. But that doesn’t imply he doesn’t have a soft side.
Cardenaz has a gentle side and he is often encouraged by it to help out needy pets. He is presently nursing back to health a wounded chipmunk.
He also helped save a needy hummingbird four years ago. Cardenaz’s porch has flowers which attract the birds.
He went out one day to discover one that was wounded to the point that it was unable to fly.
“Several of his feathers in his wings were broken off and he couldn’t take flight,” said Cardenaz.
So Cardenaz picked up the bird and made sure it was secure and well fed. He named the bird Buzz and with Pedialyte and sugar nursed him back to health.
“I had to wait until he molted, and regrew new wings. That was 8 weeks. And he became a part of the family,” said Cardenaz.
“He would fly around the yard and come back when he got exhausted because that was his comfort zone until he finally took off for the winter. And he’s been coming back for the last four years,” said Cardenaz.
The bird flies to South America and back to Grovetown every year just to visit the man who helped him. And Cardenaz is 100% sure that it’s the same hummingbird that keeps coming back to him.
“Random hummingbirds don’t land in your hand,” said Cardenaz.
