In a rare video, legendary artists Johnny Cash and John Denver sing John Denver’s huge hit song ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads.’ These two music icons come together for a special duet of this classic song and it’s absolutely incredible to hear.
“Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze”
Just about everyone knows these classic lyrics. The words paint a picture of a simpler time.
“Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads”
It seems the world these days is always in chaos. Life is in a fast lane and always feels like we are in a hurry. Everyone moves from one activity to the next without taking time to pause and reflect on their surroundings. There’s something about open fields and dirt roads that allow us to stop and truly take in the beauty that God has created all around us.
The video was recorded in 1978 and, even though the quality isn’t great, you can still hear these two legends belt out the iconic lyrics. The world lost a huge talent when John Denver passed away so young at 53 years old back in 1997. Johnny Cash went on to do even more things in his celebrated carrer after this performance until he passed away in 2003. Their voices have no match in this day and age, and a dose of nostalgia is just what we need today. God bless!
