Back in 2012 Melissa Dohme was violently stabbed by her boyfriend 32 times. She was hospitalized and was forced to undergo multiple surgeries. She needed to have a scar excision and a revision surgery. Her ex boyfriend who stabbed her, Robert Lee Burton Jr., pleaded guilty to attempted murder and was sentenced to life in prison without a chance for parole.
It took a while for Melissa to recover from her physical and emotional wounds. She was recovering when she ran into Cameron Hill, a Firefighter-paramedic who was one of the first to respond to her emergency situation, randomly at a local church.
The two became close friends and by 2013 she claims they were madly in love. They were inseparable and so very happy together. Melissa took what happened to her and used it for good. She became a big advocate against domestic abuse.
Melissa started working as a voice for “Break the Silence” and was able to help so many people who had gone through similar experiences as she had. She took the bad things that happened to her and used her story to help other people. But not only was she able to help other women who were going through unimaginably hard times, she also fell madly in love with Cameron.
She was invited to throw the first pitch at a Tampa Bay Rays baseball game because of her hard work, or so she thought! What she didn’t realize was that Cameron had arranged the entire thing for a special surprise proposal! How sweet is that?!
Right as she was about to throw out the first pitch Cameron came out to see her and asked her to marry him! She was in complete shock and you could tell how surprised she was! She said yes and was so excited about what had just happened! Now the two are planning their wedding and we could not be any happier for them!
This just goes to show that bad things happen, but we can always do something to make the best out of the situation. God has a plan for us and for everything in our lives, all we need to do is trust Him and obey his commands! We serve a faithful and loving God!
