Your Daily Devotion From Doctor Tabor

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
Luke 2:19

Treasure in Your Heart

During the Christmas season, we often receive numerous gifts from coworkers, friends, colleagues, and, of course, our family. They often range from small tokens such as candy, fruit, or homemade goodies to items such as books, DVDs, and gift cards. From there, the list of gifts usually becomes more personal—clothing, perfume or cologne, practical items we need, and beautiful items that the giver knew would delight us in some way.

Usually, after all the presents have been received, opened, and put away, one or two linger in your mind. Perhaps they stand out because they were unexpected or due to the pleasant association with the person and event, the context in which they were received. Or maybe some presents just speak to us and emerge as favorites.

Mary sorted through all her memories and precious moments with her newborn son as if exploring a museum of priceless art. Perhaps she simply couldn’t choose one special scene or indelible memory over another. She treasured them all, aware of the miracle that had taken place in her own life, and for all mankind.

Pray: “Dear Father, I have so many wonderful memories of past holidays. Thank you for the way you always reveal yourself anew at Christmas time.”
