“He went off to sleep and I fell asleep with him on the sofa. I wasn’t fully lying down, I was right up against the back and he was on my arm. I just dozed off.”
Being a parent can really take a lot out of you. Of course, it fills you right back up with joy and love just when you think you are empty. There is a lot of responsibility and sometimes even the most attentive parents still have mishaps.
Many parents get nervous about making sure they keep their infant safe and alive. Unfortunately, this is for a good reason. Children are so fragile and helpless that they depend on us so much. There are many things we need to observe carefully such as choking, pulling on furniture or escaping out of the house.
One young dad had one of these heartbreaking experiences and hopes to bring awareness from his story.
David was 25 years old and decided to take some special time with his newborn baby.
“He seemed to calm down and snuggled into me. I was comforting him whilst the bottle warmed up, I was just admiring him and amazed by him,” said David.
“He went off to sleep and I fell asleep with him on the sofa. I wasn’t fully lying down, I was right up against the back and he was on my arm. I just dozed off.”
When David woke up the baby was very still. He called his wife and authorities for help.
“I ran upstairs and said to Beverly I think something’s wrong with him. Beverly tried kissing his mouth but she couldn’t feel anything.
The couple was told their baby passed away from SIDs (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).
Doctor’s expressed how there is no reason why this happens sometimes.
“He was quite a small baby for his age. He had no outside injuries or marks and was perfectly normal. He had signs of a common cold, but he was well until he died,” said a medical staff member.
Please pray for all families affected by the loss of a child.
