Many people have found themselves in the clutches of this deadly disease called cancer. Many have lost their battle with cancer and many more continue to fight today. This is a disease that does not accept defeat, and there is often the chance of it coming back even if a person is cancer-free for years. Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly had been battling cancer for quite a while and at one point was even declared cancer free. But, his cancer seems to have come back again. The inspiring words of his wife during these tough times provide enormous strength and hope to people around her. “As our family has faced many trials and triumphs throughout the years, you have blessed us with your prayers. We are asking for those prayers once again,” Kelly said. “With all of you by my side, we will fight and win this battle together.” Despite the shocking diagnosis, their faith is still undeterred. “God is a promise maker and keeper,” she said.
“The more life and heartbreak I experience, the more I realize this is not the end of the story. Life is temporary. And short. But eternity…is FOREVER. Because we know that our eternity is secure in Christ, we can trust God with every breath upon this earth,” she wrote. Kelly was first diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma back in June of 2013. He had some of his upper jaw removed due to the serious condition of his sickness. This former legendary quarterback lost weight and his ability to produce saliva as a part of the long-term symptoms of this disease. He played 11 seasons with the Bills before retiring after the 1996 season.
