The Camp Fire in California has changed the lives of many. Social media and news outlets have covered everything from updates to stories of hope. With almost 95% of Paradise, California burned to the ground, many are looking for a little positivity for their future. At Our Savior Lutheran Church, there was indeed a sign. A perfect wooden crossed stood tall for all to see despite everything around it being burned.
The entire church and property were burned down after being there for almost 54 years. Pastor Brandon Merrick and his family also lived on the property. The family left the area to be safe and later discovered a couple had gone to the church parking lot with nowhere else to go.
“It was the first moment we felt safe and believed we would survive this horrific event,” Tyler Frank said in an interview. “We were grateful to be there.”
As they sat in the lot together, the fires left them and the cross untouched. They took a photo of the amazing cross and posted it to social media with their story.
Merrick shared his thoughts regarding the image and faith.
“This is our one true hope in the midst of tragedy that cannot be destroyed by anything,” he commented on the post. “God is with us. God is holding you right now.”
Services for the church are being held at other locations for the moment with hopes to rebuild soon.
Please keep those affected by the fires in prayer. Amen.
