Sleep, it’s something that most of us wish we could get more of. And rightfully so, sleep is very important for our mental and physical wellbeing! God even set aside a day for rest when he created the world, and if that doesn’t convince you that rest is important then I don’t know what will! If you are one of the people who desperately want more rest but has trouble falling asleep at night, you are not alone. In fact, it is a common problem and hardly any of us are able to get the recommended 6-8 hours of sleep we need each night. Luckily, there is a nifty little trick called the “4-7-8” breathing technique that is supposed to help you fall asleep in just 60 seconds!
This special trick was developed by Dr. Andrew Weil and it is extremely easy to follow. The technique blends meditation and breathing together in a way that is supposed to help your body counteract stress. The idea of the technique is to breathe in through your nose for four seconds. Next, hold this breath for seven seconds. Finally, exhale for eight seconds. You need to repeat this cycle three times and you should then be able to fall asleep! Watch the video below to see Dr. Andrew Weil explain more about how the 4-7-8 technique works and try it out for yourself!
