Being stuck at the airport as a result of a flight delay can be stressful, and although the reason is often a bad weather, or the recent increased amount of flights but not enough runways, it’s not that unusual for it to be a single traveler.
A woman named Kristen Wiley talks about an interesting report about a postponed flight with us and we are very pleased she did that. The airplane she was in at the Seattle-Tacoma airport was about to flight, but there was something going on, so they were around 45 minutes behind.
The cabin crew as well as the flight attendants gathered around one of the travelers, and that’s When Kristen thought to get her cell phone out, take some pictures, and upload them on Facebook together with a summary of what was taking place. There was an interesting factor why her Alaska Airlines Flight 748 hadn’t budged an inch.
The post said:
” We are at the moment sitting on a plane, with a 45 minute delay. Why? Because there is an elderly lady suffering from dementia, who is very troubled and confused.”
The poor woman was baffled and had no idea where she was, or why she got on the airplane. She was definitely scared, and only a few passengers could eye witness the whole thing because the guard knelt down the aisle and did something astonishing.
The lady found support in her dog who she started embracing as she was attempting to understand the situation she found herself in. These folks don’t have it easy because they do not know when their disorder will intensify, so they live their life from moment to moment.
” The incredible staff of #alaskaairlines is being incredibly understanding and responsive, in what can only be a quite scary situation for her. Explaining every step, snuggling her dog, consulting with her husband/caregiver to discover the best solution.”
When Kristen saw how nicely the woman was handled by the airplane company’s staff members not only she wasn’t mad about the flight delay, but she was happy there were still friendly and thoughtful people out there. The crew members were patient and developed a solution. In this terrible world, it’s not everyday that we observe emotional scenes similar to this unfold right before our eyes.
The woman, together with her pup and her husband were escorted off the plane by the staff who explained why the passengers did what they did what they did it. The woman simply needed to take her time to come to terms with herself. She felt too upset and pressured as a result of the travel, so the business made a kindhearted offer.
” Alaska Airlines calmly aided the woman, her husband/caregiver and sweet puppy off the plane, providing lodging and transportation with plans to rest up and try again the following day. Again, astounding compassion given to the both of them while silently explaining the situation to other passengers.”
Whereas it’s not uncommon for some drama to be happening on board every now and then, the way the company and its staff members take care of it is what speaks of them as beings. We are delighted Kristen discussed this story with us, because it’s everything we really need to hear in a world wherein people are losing sight of what it means to be compassionate.
“This is how I would want my mom, my sister, my aunt, my daughter, my niece, my good friend looked after. ”
This story is a great reminder that we must always provide a helping hand to a person in need, because we never know who is observing our good deeds and who do we inspire to become a better person. Our compassion can go a long way and bring back someone’s faith in humanity, and that’s how the World ends up being a better place.
