Do You Have Faith?

Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Hebrews 11:6

No matter how hard you try to please God, you can never do enough to earn his favor. You can give all your money to the church, work in a mission for the homeless, and read your Bible daily. While good if motivated by love and not legalism, these activities are useless when it comes to pleasing God unless you have faith.

When you trust someone, you naturally rely on them for comfort, connection, and collaboration. Our relationship with God works the same way; it’s a relationship, not a business transaction, career opportunity, or magic lamp. No matter what we do, if we do it unto the Lord with a sincere faith, he will be pleased. But he does want us to grow and mature in our faith. A father cherishes the crayon-drawn picture his toddler draws him, but he expects more when the child grows into an adult.

The good news is that we can’t force ourselves to grow—it happens naturally as we become more deeply acquainted with the love of our heavenly Father.

Pray: “Thank you for loving me and rewarding me with so many blessings as your child. Help me to live by faith, serving you from my love for you and nothing more.”
