Denise Richards has always been able and happy to do whatever it takes to make her children happy. Her road with her youngest daughter, Eloise, is a testament to just that. The 7-year-old is the least senior of Denise’s three children. Denise also shares her daughters Sam, 14, and Lola, 13, with her ex-husband Charlie Sheen.
Denise chose to adopt Eloise as a single mom, beginning the process in 2009. It took a couple of years, but Denise brought Eloise home in 2011. Denise has recently revealed that Eloise has special needs due to a chromosomal disorder that has led to developmental problems.
“She wasn’t able to sit up on her own for a very long time, and she didn’t start walking until she was 2, and that was with physical therapy,” the actress told news sources. Two and a half years ago, Eloise was diagnosed with the deletion of chromosome 8.
“She can only say a handful of words, and there are times when she feels like her age in understanding, and then other times where it feels she’s emotionally 3 years old,” added Denise. “It’s been challenging. I’m learning every day because they don’t really have a road map for her particular case.”
Denise continues to work very closely with doctors and therapists on aiding Eloise progress. She does not know what the future has in store, but she’s choosing to stay positive. She hopes that by opening up about her daughter’s special needs, she can help raise publicity and awareness and ease the stigma many parents feel.
