Go into any free-standing Chick-fil-A, and you likely will find the warmth and friendliness of the staff overwhelming. It is part of the culture and ethos of the company to welcome everyone with a smile and excellent service. The same standards exist in the mall locations as well, but the settings are slightly different and sometimes kindness and service can get lost in the crowd of the food court.
Kindness is alive in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Arturo Ramirez, a disabled customer, made the lunch rush for his usual mid-day meal. Chick-fil-A is a favorite of his, and he usually dines there alone. This day, employee Ashley Gusman joined him. She cut his food for him and made sure he had everything he needed to enjoy his meal.
Little did she know another diner in the food court caught the whole thing in a picture that went viral on Facebook.
“I’ve seen this man several times here by himself. The times I’ve been here everyone just leaves him. She cut his food into pieces and went back several times to get him whatever he needed. May God bless this woman,” wrote Jessica Gomez in the now viral post.
Ashley was surprised by the attention, telling a local TV station, “I really was surprised…I didn’t know what to think at first, and I was really nervous because all these people were seeing it,” she said. “And you know, out of everybody, why was it me?”
Ashley’s humility is refreshing to see. She doesn’t realize how unusual her kind act was, even for a Chick-fil-A employee.
Like the woman who caught her in the act, we too are impressed and add to her prayer: God bless young Ashley.
