Thanksgiving memories usually include thoughts of food, family, and gratitude. Sometimes there are hiccups and things are not always perfect. This past holiday, dinner took a turn for the worst at the dinner table for one family.
Hanna Marie Jarvis and her relatives decided to have their holiday dinner away from home at a local restaurant. The party of 8 sat down, ordered their meals and were enjoying time together.
Hanna’s baby girl Calli was just 7 months old on this first Thanksgiving. She was enjoying mash potatoes when a staff member walked by and saw something was wrong with little Calli. The woman called for help and everyone panicked. The baby was choking on her food.
A woman heard the server shout for help and came over to the rescue.
Calli’s grandpa recalled the moment:
“The folks turned to my grandbaby, and that’s when that lady that saved her came up. This lady named Deborah intervened, and she started performing the Heimlich maneuver on her. She held her down, like this, taking multiple blows to her back. It was miraculous, she started breathing again. She told me her name is Deborah Rouse.”
It was perfect timing for the woman to help and also know how to save Calli. Hanna was deeply appreciative for the woman’s help and expressed how thankful she was.
She also made a post on social media to the woman in hopes to thank her again. It read:
“If anyone knows who Deborah Rouse is, this lady is a hero! If it weren’t for this angel, my daughter probably would have been wheeled away in an ambulance today. Thank you for saving my daughter’s life and thank you, Trish, from Golden Corral who helped intervene as well! My family and I can’t thank you enough for helping. My daughter is fine and has been seen at the ER and is perfectly happy and healthy now.”
“I will never forget the many tears that were shed today in Golden Corral as this angel stepped in to perform the Heimlich maneuver that saved my baby from choking to death. Most importantly, thank you, Jesus, for hearing our desperate cries for Calli this Thanksgiving afternoon. Christ was with us today. Christ made sure that he was going to protect my baby today and that’s just what he did.”
Call quickly recovered after the food was cleared away. She then took a picture with her new friend Deborah.
