Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
Isaiah 30:21
He Knows Your Voice
New parents are often amazed at the way their hearing suddenly becomes so acutely attuned to their newborn’s cries. Whether whimpering in their sleep or crying in the church nursery, a baby’s attention-getting cry is distinct from any other sound a mother or father may hear. Even among other crying children or in a noisy surrounding, a parent zeros in on their little one’s distinct sound.
Similarly, babies and children know the voices of their mother and father. Many expectant parents will even read and sing to their baby in utero, so the newborn will already be familiar with the voices of mom and dad. Sometimes when in distress, a child only needs to recognize the voice of assurance coming from their caretakers.
We, too, as children of God, need to hear our Father’s voice and be reassured of his love, guidance, and protection. How wonderful that we can know that he hears us as well—distinct and unique from all his other sons and daughters!
Pray: “Abba Father, thank you for listening when I cry out for your help. I’m so glad that you hear my prayers and come to my aid.”
