Driving a cab is a tiresome job. Cab drivers spend a lot of time waiting for dispatch to send them calls and listening to music is a favored pastime among cabbies.
Carlos De Antonis, a Miami cabbie, spent plenty of time listening to music, but he preferred making music more. An avid fan of Opera, Carlo often sings to his clientele while ferrying them around the city.
It was a client who encouraged him to try out for America’s Got Talent (AGT) last season.
His happy disposition and humility impressed the judges right away, but as with any open-call audition, you never know what you are going to get.
Carlos sings the opening notes of “Nessun Dorma,” made famous by the late Luciano Pavarotti, and the crowd, along with the judges notice his talent right away. Simon Cowell’s facial expression and his posture changed almost immediately.
When Carlos finishes his audition, the crowd erupts into applause, and it moved Carlos to tears. The emotion and warmth he exuded moved Howie to remark, “Your character, you’re just so giving!”
Mel B commented on his passion, and the look of surprise on Carlos’ face is priceless.
If we have a dream or talent, we often discount it as not good enough, so it is no surprise that Carlos seemed so shocked at the crowd and judges’ reaction.
The song, “Nessun Dorma” speaks of a secret the singer can only reveal to his love at first light. Well, the secret is out: Carlos can sing!
