For many people, a pet is considered a member of the family. Some were adopted as babies, while others were brought into families for a new beginning as adults. Either way, we love them dearly and we must remember how much they love us.
As pets get older, most do not live longer than us, which means they go to heaven before we do. Some situations are natural while others pets may need to be put out of their pain by being put down.
This is very difficult for everyone involved including the veterinarian. A plea for pet owners in this situations has been made by one unknown vet. A post was published on social media with the eye-opening and touching request.
The message is heartbreaking to read but also brings a greater awareness from the perspective of the pet.
“When you are a pet owner it is inevitable, the majority of the time, that your pet will die before you do. So if and when you have to you have to take your pet to the vet’s office for a humane pain-free ending I want you all to know something,” said the vet.
“You have been the center of their world for THEIR ENTIRE LIVES!!!!”
“It is a crappy decision/day/time/event every time, there is no argument against that and it is devastating for us as humans to lose them.”
“But please I beg you DO NOT LEAVE THEM. Do not make them transition from life to death in a room of strangers in a place they don’t like.”
The next line is very sobering.
“The thing you people need to know that most of you don’t is that THEY SEARCH FOR YOU WHEN YOU LEAVE THEM BEHIND!!!!”
“Don’t be a coward because you think it is just too hard for YOU, imagine what they feel as you leave them in their most vulnerable time and people like me are left to try out best every time to comfort them, make them less scared and try to explain why you just couldn’t stay.”
The post ends with “From a tired broken-hearted vet.”
