Soldier Surprises Mom for Her Walk Down the Aisle

Zaykeese Riley, a private in the US Army, is in the second phase of his training at Fort Lee, Virginia, and because of his commitment to this country, would miss his mother’s wedding in Houston, Texas.

Riley, along with his brother, was raised by his single mom and he lovingly refers to them as “the Three Musketeers.” The close bond they share made it all the more difficult to miss out on this beautiful occasion.

His mom is a proud Army mom. While she understood the reasons behind his inability to come, she was still saddened to hear he would not make it.

Riley’s grandmother advised him to write a heartfelt letter to his superiors and ask for leave. Since it is not the norm to get such a request granted during training, it was a surprise when his superiors allowed it anyway.

In a video interview with USA Today Riley explained he and his mother were separated for about six months when the wedding took place.

Riley’s family secretly planned to surprise his mom so on the day of the wedding he quietly stood behind her waiting for just the right moment.

In the wedding video, you can hear someone giving directions for people to move around and “back up.” It was then the bride turned to see what was going on and her reaction will move you to tears.

What a joy it is to see a young man so dedicated to both family and country. We agree with Riley, family is essential, and we should soak up every minute we can while we can. We never know when we may see them again.
