For those of us who desire to have children, we can’t help but have an idea of how many and what gender we want; daydreaming about the future is totally natural.
But, as most of us know, things don’t typically turn out the way we plan.
Roy and Bernita Rogers from Kansas City, Missouri, spoke together about their dreams of having a big family.
But when it came to trying for a baby, things didn’t turn out as they had hoped.
A couple of years into the marriage the couple had to endure the pain of three premature births. Despite being devastated they never lost faith.
To fill the void of not being able to have a child Bernita decided to get a cat; something that she could love and grow with.
This beautiful black kitten called Midnight not only became an important part of the family but signaled the start of something wonderful.
Shortly after the couple brought Midnight home, Bernita got pregnant and gave birth to an amazing baby girl.
Their baby girl Stacey and Midnight became such good friends and the cat became her most diligent protector.
When their sweet baby girl showed signs she wasn’t feeling well they took her to her doctor who assured them it was nothing to worry about as it was just a cold.
After returning home Roy and Bernita put their baby down to rest, safe in the fact that the baby monitor was on and Midnight was close by.
But shortly after, they heard the most terrifying sounds on the monitor.
“It was this screech-wail-scream-cry. It was frightening enough that I jumped out of the chair and ran upstairs,“ stated Bernita.
The horrified mom and dad ran into their daughter’s room and saw Stacey struggling to breathe.
Stacey’s skin had started to turn blue so they raced her to the ER, where they were told their baby had suffered full respiratory failure.
With treatment she began to recover but had they left her any longer, who knows what may have happened.
Thank God Midnight alerted them in time. Black cats are amazing but some people shy away from them. This cat is a true hero and deserves a big hug and a special treat.
