No one knew what to expect when Jacqueline Faye took the stage. The shy 53-year-old farmer from Oxfordshire, England spends most of her days with her animals and loving husband. But this day was different. She traveled from her small farm to The X Factor stage just to sing “You’re My World” in front of the audience and judges.
Instead of shrinking in the moment, Jacqueline rose like a superstar to the occasion. Her audition is a great example of why you should never judge a book by its cover.
As she walked on stage, Jacqueline quietly introduced herself. The middle-aged singer talked about how she lived on a farm with her husband with chickens, ducks, horses, and even peacocks named Dave and Chaz. Which she dedicated her performance by the way. While the judges and most of the audience laughed at Jacqueline’s farmer lifestyle, one judge, Robbie Williams, seemed interested in her story.
This was very fitting since before taking the stage, Jacqueline told the camera crew that Robbie was her favorite judge on the show.
“He’s not just an entertainer, he’s an icon. He’s the kind of guy I’d like in my family.”
Jacqueline started her singing. It only took a few seconds to hush the crowd of their constant giggling.
Usually judge Simon Cowell is quick with a harsh comment but this time he was quick to shower Jacqueline with praise, saying:
“As you walked out I’m kind of thinking to myself [that] maybe you’ve walked on to the wrong show by mistake. And I’m thinking this isn’t going to be great… and then you were.”
Simon wasn’t the only one, Louis Tomlinson said:
“For me, stories like this – this is exactly what this show should be all about – someone your age standing up there and having a real moment like that.”
She’s living proof it’s never too late to follow your dreams, and you should always believe in yourself even when others may laugh at you. Way to go Jacqueline
