The Amish settlements sprinkled through the Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana regions are a tight-knit group of quiet, devout, and hardworking people.
Modern day conveniences and technology is not often (if ever) used, but that won’t stop the Amish from getting big things accomplished. Through sheer manpower and elbow grease, with the help of their neighbors, these farmers can get the impossible done, and done well.
Recently, hundreds of Amish friends and family came to Knox County, Ohio to Joseph Hochstetler’s farm to accomplish one such impossible task.
While the women and children, and even non-Amish neighbors looked on, 250 men were there to move a pole bard from one side of the farm to another. Winter wind whipped about as the men coordinated and focused lifted the building with nothing but their bare hands.
According to Livestrong, the average man can deadlift 155 pounds. If we extrapolate that out, the barn could weigh at least 31,000 pounds. What an unimaginable feat!
Not only did these men lift this whole barn, they then walked it over 200 feet away. To top it all off, they turn the barn in one maneuver to face a different direction.
Their coordination and focus are truly impressive to watch. Though most technology is eschewed among the Amish, somehow this event was caught on camera, and it is worth a watch.
