69-year-old Milwaukee man Gene Hubbard lost his sight to diabetes complications, but he has not let that slow him down.

Each workday he has to travel the same route to work using the county transit system. When construction blocked his crosswalk with barrel cones and caution tape things got difficult.. Without his bearings, Gene could become lost and find himself in a potentially dangerous situation with traffic zooming by inches away from him.

“If I don’t have a regular locating point to start from, I may as well be in the middle of the ocean,” Gene told WITI Fox 6 in an interview.

A substitute bus driver drove up to Gene’s stop. He parked the bus in mid-route, jumped out and and carefully escorted Gene across the street avoided the construction and guided him through the maze of cones to safety.

As traffic stopped and watched, a bystander realized how odd this moment was.  You don’t see many people helping each other these days sadly.  She decided to take a picture a she later shared on social media.

The kind act was also captured by security cameras on the bus.  Now the two have been gaining lots of attention thanks to that original social media post.  Please remember to take time out of your day if you see someone in need.
