Every now and then you hear a story that restores your faith in humanity. God created us all equal as part of one big family, but we keep building walls based on race, color, gender, etc. When these walls come down, we experience God’s love and understand humanity in the way God meant it to be. Spencer Sleyon and Rosalind Guttman are two of the most unlikely people you would expect to be friends, and yet they are. The twenty-two-year-old African American man and the eighty-one-year-old white lady met by chance over a game app. Words With Friends is a Scrabble-like game that both friends would play and it resulted in them getting acquainted online. As time passed and they played more games together they started to get to know each other better.
Spencer found Rosalind to be someone who he could confide him and ask for advice and Rosalind was only too happy to impart her wisdom on the young man. When a friend’s mother overheard Spencer’s story about his friendship with Rosalind, she orchestrated a meeting. The friend’s mom, Amy Butler, is a senior minister at a Manhattan church, and with Spencer’s help got in touch with Rosalind. She then flew with Spencer from New York to Florida so that the two friends could meet. Amy says that the meeting was a beautiful experience and with absolutely no awkwardness. She said that Spencer and Rosalind were magnetically drawn to each other. In a thank you note to Amy, Rosalind describes the meeting as one of the most memorable days of her life.
