Before 21-year-old Joseph Allen from Texas went on stage for his “America’s Got Talent” audition he asked host Terry Crews to make him a simple promise.
That promise was to make sure that the host with the giant biceps would pick Joseph up if he manages to get the coveted Golden Buzzer. The Golden Buzzer is a magic button that an “AGT” judge can press to have a contestant they like go straight through to the live shows. Terry said yes.
Joseph came out on that stage and the audience was already on their feet. The judges Howie Mandel, Gabrielle Union, Julianne Hough, and Simon Cowell were eager to see what he was going to do. They were fascinated and asked why he was there. To which he answered:
“I just see myself as being someone who can make a major impact in the world, and I want to see how much of a footprint I can leave on Earth before I leave,” he told the judges.
Then he plunged into an initial song about and dedicated to the judges. His voice and rapping abilities were blown away the judges, but no one was expecting what happened next. The evaluation started and Howie Mandel was the first judge to talk. He was encouraging and spoke about the whole world watching that moment.
He got to his feet while he was talking, then Howie jumped to the tabletop and Joseph was totally in shock. Then Howie said, “You said you wanna leave a footprint, Well, I’m gonna give you the footprint.” And he stomped right down on the Golden Buzzer, bringing Joseph to the live show.
The golden confetti started raining down and Terry ran on stage and fulfilled his promise of picking up Joseph and walking him around the stage. It was a site to see!
