We all must be as careful as we can in life to avoid putting ourselves or others in harm’s way. Often times we get impatient or frustrated while we are driving and make stupid mistakes in order to get to where we are headed faster. What we don’t always consider is how bad these mistakes can be and how they can put us or others on the road in grave danger.

Many of us remember being told to keep a safe distance between semi-trucks when we first started driving, and there is a good reason for that! These 18 wheelers are huge and it takes a lot of experience to drive one. Now, if you get to close to a semi-truck, there is a good chance it will hit you. Why? Well, it’s not because the driver is being reckless, but instead, it’s because of an array of problems that come with driving such a large vehicle. Some of these issues include having a much larger blind spot, their car taking longer to stop, and the biggest problem is other drivers making incorrect decisions on the road.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, in 2013 there were more than 4,000 fatal accidents that happened involving large trucks or busses. And, while some of the car drivers are saying that truck drivers are the bullies of the road, it has been found that 72% of the accidents between trucks and passenger vehicles are caused by car drivers. Other variables such as failure to make a safe lane change and driving too fast often cause these fatal crashes between semi-trucks and passenger vehicles.
