A Minnesota driver was able to capture video of the moment a toddler, strapped into a car seat, fell out of a moving vehicle and onto the road.
On Jan. 14, Chad Cheddar Mock was on the road in Mankato, Minnesota, when his vehicle’s dash camera recorded a terrifying incident involving a toddler.
As Mock was driving, the rear door of the vehicle in front of him suddenly opened while the vehicle was still speeding forward.
A toddler fell out of the vehicle and hit the road. The child remained securely strapped into a hefty car seat, which took the brunt of the fall.
Mock came to a stop right away and rushed out to check on the child, a 2-year-old whose name has not been released.
Mock waved at oncoming traffic to slow drivers down as other people stopped to help.
According to KMSP-TV, the person driving the vehicle did turn around to return to the scared child.
Few details about the incident are available to the public at the time of writing, but police did say that the child was properly fastened in the car seat.
The car seat, however, was definitely not strapped into the backseat of the vehicle.
Emergency response crews were able to determine that the child was uninjured in the fall.
According to KMSP, police are now investigating to determine the details of the incident.
Mock posted the terrifying video to his Facebook page, where it has been viewed nearly half a million times in two days.
“If it didn’t happen in front of me, I’d never have believed it,” Mock stated.
He added that the ending was “very lucky,” compared to what could have happened.
Miraculously, the toddler was physically unharmed after the fall.
For parents and grandparents of young kids, it’s always a great idea to double check a child’s car seat restraint system, especially if a booster seat or car seat is moved to and from different vehicles.
Don’t wait until the child you love has fallen onto the road to make sure the car seat is not properly secured in a vehicle.
