Police tells woman her brake lights are out, then he fixes them for her

Chy-Niece Thacker was on her way to a job interview when the blue lights of a police car went off behind her. Though she was not speeding and had signaled her turns, she quickly realized the officer was pulling her over.

Her heart dropped, and she wondered what was going on. She reached for her insurance and registration as she rolled down her window.

Officer Jenkins told her he wasn’t looking for those, but instead wondered if she knew her brake lights were entirely out?

Chy-Niece knew her car had electrical issues but explained to the officer that Firestone wanted $600 to diagnose the problem. Nervous about the fine and repair costs, Chy-Niece was utterly caught off guard when instead of ticketing her, Officer Jenkins asked her to pop her trunk.

He tapped on the lights, and they did not come on. He went to look under the hood at the relay switches and then crawled into the car to check the fuses.

Chy-Niece wrote on a Facebook post that’s been shared more than 100,000 times about the kindness the policeman showed her.

“So this happened just now. I’m on my way to go to my interview this morning when I get pulled. Both break lights decided to go out this time. As he walked to the car and I was pulling out my stuff, he quickly said,

‘Don’t worry about pulling anything out. I just want you to know your break lights are out.’

So I’m immediately upset, because I just got them replaced last month. So I explained to him how Firestone wants to charge me $600 just to run a test on the wiring of the car.

He looked at me (like he knew this was crazy) and told me to pop the trunk.

He checked the lights in the trunk and tapped them, but they didn’t come on. So he told me to pop the hood to check the relay box then asked me to get out to check the other one.

He could have easily given me a ticket, but Officer Jenkins stepped out of officer role and into mechanic role to make sure I was straight.”

It is such a breath of fresh air to see good news involving a traffic stop. The only thing we wonder is if Chy-Niece made it to the interview on time? We hope so.
