Jeff Bridges Shares Love Story of 41-Year Marriage to Longtime Wife Susan Geston

Jeff Bridges Shares Love Story of 41-Year Old Marriage

Whole TV shows, magazines, and websites dedicate their programming and copy to who is hooking up with whom in Hollywood. Marriage, if ever entered into between Hollywood couples, seems to last a little longer than a few news cycles.

Long lasting marriages are a rarity. When we find couples who make unions work, we celebrate them. Those of us who are married know how difficult marriage is, and since us married folks like to complain, I mean to explain, why marriage is so hard, so does everyone else.

Jeff Bridges and his wife Susan Geston must be doing something right because they are in their 41st year together.

Referring to her as his “diamond” he took the plunge and asked her to marry him in 1975. Don’t let the sweet talk steer you wrong. He wasn’t ready for a wife and kids, but because she was and he loved her, Bridges knew he could not let her go.

Their engagement was a few short days. They called friends and family and married the following weekend in Malibu.

Fast forward more than four decades, and Bridges has nothing to say but good things about marriage. In an interview on the OWN Network Bridges says, “Finally I got with the program and realized what a great opportunity marriage is…We are going to learn and experience all kinds of joyful things and sorrowful things, but we are going to do it together.”

Over the years he credits that growth and shared experience between him and Sue, as he calls her, to the woman herself.

He once wrote in Reader’s Digest of his great love for her and credited her with his successful acting career. While he made money, she “takes care of everything else,” he wrote.

Sticking by one another for more than four decades, Jeff and Susan are just one example of a good marriage.
