Back in 1977 at an Alabama concert Elvis stopped singing and then decided that night to sing something he never attempted in public before. The band didn’t know the song, but that didn’t stop Elvis. He sat down at the piano and played the gospel song himself. He later said he felt like he needed to sing it. Lucky for us, the audio from the concert was recorded.
[Jesus said,] “Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
Matthew 6:8
Often we find ourselves praying our requests over and over again, not because God didn’t hear us the first time or can’t make up his mind, but because the timing isn’t right to reveal his answer. He knows that when we’re in need, when we have nowhere to turn or know that we can’t achieve our goal by ourselves, we keep our hope fixed on him. He’s able to purify our desires and help us see what’s truly important and not just the possession, events, and people whom we often ask him to bring into our lives.
Jesus tells us that even a wicked earthly father would never give his child a snake when he asked for a fish or a stone when the child asked for bread. So if our parental instincts are compassionate and generous, our heavenly Father’s are beyond our imagination. God wants the best for his children. We may not get what we ask for, but we always get what’s in our best interests.
Your Father loves you and will give you what you need.
