[Jesus said,] “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28
When was the last time you felt truly rested? Maybe it was after your last vacation, an especially good night’s sleep, or an afternoon nap. Since soul rest includes more than just resting our bodies, maybe you feel rested after preparing a special meal, during the closing credits of a great movie, or while watching the sun set.
We all long for true, deep-down, soul-satisfying rest, but seldom seem to get it. What if the secret isn’t the activity—or lack of it—but the anchor? When we relax and let go of all our worries, our faith anchors us to the goodness and sovereignty of God. He’s in charge, not us.
The secret to real rest is anchoring yourself to a foundation that never moves. Your life changes constantly, but God’s love for you never changes. Who he is, his character, never changes. He is the same last week as he is today. The same today as he is ten years from now.
You can rest easy.
