We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield.
Psalm 33:20
It’s not easy to ask for help, whether we’re asking for directions, assistance with completing a task, or resources that we need. Maybe it’s our human pride or desire to be independent and self-sufficient. It probably has something to do with being vulnerable to others and acknowledging that we need them. And, finally, we probably don’t like asking for help because we don’t want to be disappointed, because sometimes we ask only to be denied.
We may be disappointed by God’s response to our requests, too. But he will never turn us down without providing what we need more in its place. This is where we have to trust him and depend on him in ways that go beyond our comfort zones. This is the essence of faith: trusting the Lord to provide all that we need, even if he chooses to do so in ways different than we requested.
