Being a parent is a blessing, but it is hard work! Our kids always seem to find a way to get into trouble, and it is so important for us to know what to do in the case of an emergency. The hosts of the hit daytime talk show ‘The Doctors’ know just how tricky being a parent can be, and they have some tips for you! On their show, the panel of professionals discussed how a trick called the “Mother’s Kiss” can help clear a child’s nostril when a foreign object gets stuck in it and prevent any future injury.
During the segment, Dr. Andrew P. Ordon explains, “For this technique — it is called a ‘Mother’s Kiss,’ but anybody can do it,” adding, “If you feel like you have something stuck in one side, you occlude the good side, you take a breath of air, you put your mouth over their mouth, and blow a puff of air — and the idea is that that foreign body on that lodged side should pop out.”
This simple parenting trick forces the air you blow into the child’s mouth to push the foreign object out of his or her nose, or at least help it to become looser inside the nostril. The trick is relatively simple and the best part is that the parent won’t have to use any of those scary tools to remove the item stuck inside!
