For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Psalm 139:13–14
It can be so tempting to want to be someone other than who we are. We’re conditioned to compare ourselves, and most of the time, we tend to come up short. We know people who are smarter, richer, more successful—even more mature in their faith—than we will ever be. We live in a virtual world in which we can continually find someone online who appears to be living the good life.
And it’s not that we shouldn’t pursue excellence and success; it’s simply that imitating someone else’s journey can never replace blazing our own trail. God knew who he wanted us to be long before we were even born. He invested exactly what we needed for our life, nothing more and nothing less. We can trust him in designing us to be original.

Pray: “Dear Lord, thank you for making me the way I am. Help me to accept myself—all of me—and to compare myself to no one except the person you made me to be.”
