Single mom Josette Duran of Albuquerque, New Mexico, packs two lunches for her son to take to school every day. He isn’t eating twice as much, but instead is sharing with a boy who didn’t have enough.
Josette’s son, Dylan, noticed a young boy who only ate fruit cups at lunchtime at the beginning of the school year. He requested more food so he could share with the boy and that was all Josette needed to hear. She packed two lunches, full of great snacks, drinks, sandwiches and chips for the two boys.
She soon learned the heartbreaking story behind the student – his mother lost her job, and they did not have enough to make ends meet.
“A few years ago, me and my son were homeless. I was living in my car, and I was washing him in bathrooms. And (sic) we didn’t have food,” Josette said.
When the little boy’s mother found out what Josette and Dylan were doing for her son, she wanted to pay Josette back, but Josette would not let her.
“I didn’t do anything special,” she said in an interview online.
We applaud the heart this woman has for others as well as the way she worked through her hard times while raising a remarkable young man.
