Officials say Shanghai-born You Jianxia has the longest eyelashes in the world. Guinness World Records measured the impressive lashes at almost 5 inches long. Jianxia first noticed they were growing during a retreat in 2013, attributing their length to being at one with nature.

This beat the previous longest eyelash, which grew on the left upper lid of Canada’s Gillian Criminisi and measured 8.07 cm (3.17 in) long.

The record-breaker says that having long eyelashes is beautiful as it shows she is healthy.

Jianxia doesn’t have any special techniques for looking after her luscious lashes, she simply cleans them when she washes her face each day.

Asked whether they ever cause her any discomfort, she said:

“They are a part of my body, so I never find them inconvenient.”
