Lying is a habit that the Bible abhors. The Bible tells of many incidents where liars were severely punished. Take for example the story of Ananias and Saphira’s deaths. Ananias sold a piece of his property and kept a portion of the money for himself instead of using it for the benefit of the entire early Christian community. His wife Sapphira was aware of it and supported him. Their deaths are a grim reminder that lies cannot be tolerated by the Lord at all.
And it is not just the Lord who hates lies, we do too. Perhaps that is why so much research has gone into identifying ways to tell if someone is lying. Here are some research-based signs to tell if someone is lying to you or not. Next time you suspect something, check for these things:
Are they constantly touching their face?
Are they not maintaining eye contact?
Are they not giving specific details?
Are they telling inconsistent stories?
Are they under stress?
If your answer is yes to these questions, then there is a good chance that you are being lied to. Pay closer attention to the story – false stories usually seem more fantastic and fabricated, but sorely lacking in details and tiny information. However, these signs do not always signify that you are being lied to. Sometimes, people may touch their face or not make eye contact simply because it’s a habit for them!
