A 13-year old girl from Attucks Middle School is currently on life support at Texas Children’s Hospital two days after a fight took place right off campus.
Kashala Francis’ mom, Mamie Jackson, says that her daughter told her she was surprised and attacked by two girls after class on Thursday, and that another girl later jumped in and kicked her head.
Jackson says that when her daughter came home Thursday afternoon, she had a large bruise on her face, but her daughter pleaded that she was okay.
By Saturday, Jackson says Kashala was at a family member’s house and her niece said she appeared to get delusional at one point, but it was nothing too out of the ordinary and things quickly returned to normal.
Sunday, Kashala became achy and weak, while also experiencing a very painful headache.
“I drove over and I told her get up. I said ‘Get up, Kashala.’ She kept saying, ‘Mama, my head hurt,’ so she laid down,” Jackson said.
That would be the final time that she saw her daughter’s eyes opened. Jackson says by the time first responders arrived she was already passed out and unconscious. They quickly drove her to Texas Children’s Hospital.
“And we found out she has a large tumor in the back of her head, and she had fluid buildup in her brain,” Jackson said.
The tumor was a surprise to the family, who had no idea before the diagnosis.
It is too early to tell if the fight was the main factor that contributed to Kashala’s current critical condition or if it was purely a pre-existing condition.
Houston and HISD police departments are taking a look and investigating the fight.
